City’s Economic Development Incentive Programs

Governor’s 2013 Economic Development Initiative

The program, effective January 1, 2014, is administered by the California State Franchise Tax Board. It provides eligible employers with a tax credit of up to $56,000 (over five years) for each qualified new employee they hire. Offered through the city’s partner, Pacific Community Ventures, the SAIL Fund provides affordable small business loans from $50,000 to $200,000 to high-growth California businesses that are creating quality jobs in underserved communities. Learn more ...

Entrepreneurial Development

Start-up resources are available to Gonzales’ entrepreneurs and creative thinkers and are available by participating in the Steinbeck Innovation Cluster – an initiative that will help train, mentor and guide the newest wave of entrepreneurs in the region.

Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)

Offered through the city’s partner, Monterey County Business Council, the  Procurement Technical Assistance Center helps businesses with all areas of selling to federal, state and local governments and allows for more businesses to participate in the government marketplace.

PG&E Enhanced Economic Development Rate (E-EDR)

For qualifying businesses expanding or locating in Gonzales or Monterey County, Pacific Gas & Electric offers a reduction of industrial electrical rates of up to 30% for up to five years.

Salinas Valley Enterprise Zone Program

The Salinas Valley Enterprise Zone offers numerous tax incentives for businesses located within the zone's boundaries who hired new employees or purchased equipment before December 31, 2013. Visit the Enterprise Zone website for additional information.

Please note the Enterprise Zone was officially abolished by the State of California as of December 31, 2013. However, companies may apply for program tax credits for employees hired and equipment purchased prior to that date. The deadline to apply for the retroactive credits is October 1, 2014.
